11.  Culturally Appropriate Intervention Strategies (1.5 CE Credit, © MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES).  This is an 70 minute long video stream presentation by a renowned expert researcher/clinician (Dr. Derald Wing Sue) on developing culturally appropriate intervention strategies to meet the life styles and cultural values of various ethnic/racially different clients.  As back drop to his presentation Dr. Sue describes in some detail the case of Betty Lau as a way to help the viewer understand what is considered inappropriate counseling and therapy technique in working with an ethnically different client.  This discussion sets the stage for his presentation on issues related to ethnicity and culture, the cultural values of various ethnic groups, as well as the various communication styles inherent in the way various ethnic groups communicate with one another.  He then discusses four practice implications for working with the ethnically diverse client in  counseling.  NO REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THIS  VIDEO IS PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES.

12.  Specifics of Practice for Counseling with Latinos/as (1.5 CE Credit, © MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES).  This is a 70 minute long skills building video stream demonstration with multicultural counseling expert Dr. Patricia Arredondo hosting four role-plays.  These are role-plays of more highly- achieving Latino/a clients and their therapist as they confront in therapy various cultural values and traditional beliefs as a result of their bi-cultural experiences and acculturation.  Vignette #1 depicts Sara and her difficulties adjusting to college life at an Ivy League school.  Vignette #2 depicts Raul and Sophia struggling over role changes and conflicts while adjusting to the economic realities of life in the U.S..  Vignette # 3 depicts Gloria in her struggle to address issues of discrimination in corporate America.  And Vignette #4 depicts Mercedes and her daughter Milagros struggling in their relationship to overcome conflicts related to Milagros’ acculturation.  Dr. Arredondo hosts the Debriefings of the role- play demonstrations, and she reviews the Learning Points of each of these vignettes.  Among some of the Latino cultural values and beliefs discussed include allocentrism, interdependence, family loyalty, machismo, and acculturation.  NO  REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THIS VIDEO IS PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES.

13.  Counseling and Therapy with Native American Indians (1.5 CE Credit, © 1995, MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES).  This is a 70 minute long video stream presentation by multicultural counseling  expert Dr. Teresa LaFromboise.  Dr. LaFromboise initially reviews key facts about Native Americans and the impact on their “Moving Between Two Worlds” as they adjust to life.  She then provides an understanding of both the assumptions that Native Americans hold about psychology and mental health and about the assumptions that Psychologists hold about Native Americans.  She describes in some detail the counseling implications for these differing perspectives while detailing for the viewer information on Native American cultural values and spirituality.  NO REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THIS VIDEO IS PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES.

14. Innovative Approaches from a White American Perspective (1.0 CE Credit, © MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES).    This is a 27 minute long skills building video stream hosted by multicultural experts Drs. Patricia Arredondo and Allen Ivey of a couples counseling role-play demonstration by Michael D’Andrea (the therapist), Judy Daniels (the wife) and Brian Kim (her Korean American husband).  The role-play involves the Korean American husband being referred by his physician to this therapist for chronic pain, headaches, tense muscles and gastro-intestinal complaints, and concerns by his wife about these issues.  The role-play demonstrates how a white European therapist uses the multicultural counseling competencies (Awareness, Knowledge, and Skill) to effectively assist the client exploring some of the issues and challenges that affect Korean Americans living in the United States.  Drs. Arredondo and Ivey host the “Debriefing” of the role-play demonstration and review with the other participants the “Learning Points” of this vignette. NO REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THIS VIDEO IS PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MICROTRAINING ASSOICATES.

15. Innovative Approaches to Counseling Native-American People (1.0 CE Credit, © MICROTRAINING ASSOCIATES).   This is a 34 minute long skills building video stream hosted by multicultural experts Drs. Patricia Arredondo and Allen Ivey of a counseling role-play demonstration by Dr. Art Martinez (a Native American Psychologist schooled in traditional ways of counseling) and his Native American client Nora Martinez.  Nora is the mother of three children who is married to an alcoholic husband who is also Native American.  Nora comes to see this Psychologist employed by Indian Health Services at the point that things are out of control in her family.  She as well worries over the impact of the husband’s drinking on the three daughters (ages 6–12).  The role-play demonstrates critical elements that include the introduction phase of starting counseling, engaging Native American families, joining the parent as the representative of their family, and then turning the issues that brought the family to treatment in ways to benefit both the family and individual client.  Drs. Arredondo and Ivey host the “Debriefing” of the role-play demonstration, and review with Dr. Martinez and Nora Martinez the “Learning Points” of this vignette.  NO REPORODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THIS VIDEO IS PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MICROTRAIJNING ASSOICATES.
